The Most Influential Songs of the Decade

This decade has defined our childhood. We’ve conquered elementary and middle school and are about to move onto an exciting new chapter. Music is a big part of many of our lives. When you hear a song that played during an important memory, it just hits different. These songs might mean a lot to you. Not only have they been the soundtrack to our youth, but they’ve also impacted American culture and spoken out about the problems that we were and are still facing today.

College admissions, scholarships, and overall well-roundedness: why class rank is still important

Recently, it has been proposed that the class rank system in Anne Arundel County be abolished. The champion of this issue is our student representative on the school board, Josie Urrea. Urrea, a senior at Severna Park High School, the current Student Member of the Board (SMOB), and Vice President of the Board of Education (BOE), claims that class rank creates a toxic environment where students are pitted against each other, saying this occurs across the county. Her solution is to terminate the class rank system, with it the valedictorian and salutatorian awards, and focus more on the cum laude honors system that was implemented in 2017.

My experience in Arundel’s new “Stretch Your Wellness” class

When I was filling out my course selection sheet last year, still needing a gym credit, I came across a class called “Stretch your Wellness,” taught by Ms. Markiewicz. Being a runner, I place a lot of value on stretching for injury prevention and decided it would be a great addition to my schedule.

The annual Homecoming Dance: a memorable night

On Saturday, October 6th, the building excitement from a week of dressing up, a parade, a football game and a pep rally ended in the annual Homecoming dance.
